6 carpet cleaning hacks that work wonders
Henrique Dantas • October 8, 2021

Do you have small kids at home who are always making a mess, like spilling juice or hot cocoa on the carpet? Are you exhausted from cleaning your newly bought carpet every other day and would love to have some easy tips or hacks to follow?

Carpet cleaning can be a tiresome process, especially when you have to scrub off stains from a white or pastel-colored carpet. Honestly, at times carpet cleaning can become a nightmare for moms.

Read on this blog to discover the most amazing and time-saving carpet cleaning hacks that you’ll ever come across.

1. Remove pet hair using a squeegee

Do you have a bunch of cats at home? Or does your husband refuse to give up his dog for adoption? Either way, when you have a pet, it seems like pet hair is everywhere, whether it is your clothes, furniture, rugs, and your carpets. Have you already tried a vacuum cleaner, but it doesn’t seem to work because the pet hairs are still left behind?

To remove pet hair, you can use a window squeegee as it works amazingly. It might be designed to clean windows, but who says that you can’t use it for something else.

All you have to do is run the squeegee under the tap so that it is wet enough and move it across the area you want to be cleaned. Continue the process until all pet hair is out of the surface.

2. Use an iron to clean your carpet

You must have heard that cleaning fresh stains is easy when compared to dry stains. Unfortunately, that’s true. If you have failed to realize that there’s a dry strain that needs some cleaning, then don’t worry, as this hack will exactly let you do that.

Mix one to three ratios of vinegar and water together in a bottle or bowl. Sprinkle or spray the mixture of the area with the dry stain and let the solution sink in completely while waiting for a few minutes. Cover the spot with a light-colored towel and heat your iron before placing it on the towel.

Press your iron on the stained spot for a few seconds, and then remove the towel to see if the stain has reduced. Continue doing this until all of your stain transfers from the carpet to the towel.

3.   Utilize baking soda for greasy stains

Did you spill oil on the carpet while cooking, or did your kid empty your favorite lotion bottle on the carpet? Well, guess what it doesn’t matter because even if it is either of them, baking soda is a great hack for getting rid of the stain.

Thankfully, there’s no need to create a baking soda mixture here. Just sprinkle some of the soda on the stained area and use an old toothbrush to rub in the powder completely. Once all of the area is covered, let the powder stay for 10 to 15 minutes.

Once the powder absorbs the oil or lotion, it will form a crust of its own which you can easily clean using a vacuum cleaner. Afterward, wash the stained area with lukewarm water and detergent. Once the carpet dries, you’ll see it is as good as new.

4. Place ice on bubble gum

Having naughty kids can be a nightmare, especially when they stick chewing gum everywhere after they are done eating it. Do you have kids who stick gum in the most random places, like under the table or on the rugs and carpets? If yes, then this hack will prove to be a lifesaver for you.

Imagine that your kid has stuck gum on your white carpet that too when you have guests over. Take out some ice from your freezer and put it in a plastic bag for a quick fix. Place the plastic bag on top of the sticky bubble gum and press it for a few seconds.

Once the gum is wet enough, use a knife to scrape it off, and it will come out in one go.

5.   Use salt to remove food stains

A wonderful ingredient that everyone has in their homes, salt can be used to remove a lot of food stains from your carpet. If you have spilled ketchup or wine on the carpet or rugs, then say no more because salt will do the trick for you.

What you need to do is sprinkle a generous amount of salt according to the size of the stain on the carpet or rug. Let the salt sink in for a few minutes until it absorbs whatever food fell on the carpet.

After a few minutes, you will see that the salt has absorbed most of the moisture and stain. Then, whatever stain is left behind, you can vacuum it until it is clean or use some detergent to scrub it off completely.

6. Apply shaving cream

Doesn’t this seem like the most incredible hack for cleaning your carpet? But trust us when we say that it actually works.

Shaving cream can remove all kinds of stains no matter where you got the stain from. Keep in mind to get a plain white shaving cream and not one with any color or dyes of some sort.

Apply the shaving cream on the stained area and wait for 30 minutes before cleaning it up. Remove the cream with a washcloth or towel to see if the stain has gone or not.

If it hasn’t gone away entirely or some stain is left, then repeat the process once again.
