How to quickly eliminate carpet stains
Piero Carlo Galofaro Silva • October 15, 2021

Let’s face it, no matter how careful you and your kids are, spills happen. Even if you have taken all necessary precautions, you might end up with a food or drink spill because you are human, and mistakes happen.

Instead of panicking, scolding your kids, or throwing away your carpet, you should know how to deal with the issue. There are many ways through which you remove carpet stains without taking up too much time. Some of them are mentioned below, so let’s get to them without wasting any time.

Start by distinguishing the common types of carpet stains

Before using different cleaning products or hacks, you should know what kind of stain you are dealing with to avoid wasting time. Stains can be classified into three different categories, including acidic stain, basic stain, and neutral stain. Acidic stains examples include India ink and malachite green. At the same time, examples of basic and neutral stains include crystal violet, safranin, and wright’s staining.

  Where to start from?

Did the mug of hot coffee fall from your hand, or did your child accidentally knock over the plate of saucy pasta on the carpet? Do you know where most people go wrong when trying to clean out the stains? They immediately reach out for the cleaning solution when the first try should be water itself.

Take a clean and damp washcloth and lightly tap it on the stain without rubbing it to see if the stain lightens or not. If the stain doesn’t go away, then no need to worry as we have some DIY solutions for you for different types of spills on the carpet.

DIY for removing different types of carpet stains

  1. Wine or Juice

If you have spilled red wine or any kind of juice on the carpet, then don’t worry, as the stains will go away before you know it. Sprinkle an even layer of baking soda on the stain along with a few drops of vinegar mixed with water. Also, add some dish soap and let the formula rest. After a few hours, wipe off the area with a microfiber cloth. You’ll see that the stain has gone.

  2. Chocolate

It can be a real nuisance if your children drop chocolate on the carpet. It can become even worse when the chocolate melts and settles in the fiber. If the whole chocolate hasn’t melted yet, then take a dull knife as scrape off the pieces. For a melted chocolate stain, use a bit of dishwashing detergent and lukewarm water and apply it to the stain. After 5 minutes, rub off the mixture to see if the stain is still there.

  3. Candle wax

Want to talk about daytime nightmares? One of them is dropping melted candle wax on your newly purchased carpet in the living room. Want to learn about one of the easiest solutions to remove candle wax? Take some ice from your freezer and place it inside a plastic bag.

Put that plastic bag with ice directly on top of the candle wax stain. Rub the bag up and down on the melted wax until the wax hardens. As soon as it becomes hard, scrape off the wax with a knife or some other tool. If you can still see some pieces, then use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of them.

  4. Blood

Did you just get a huge cut on your finger, and while you were running around for a bandage, did you manage to drop some of it on the carpet? Urgh, double the pain. We know that sucks, which is why we are here with a quick cleaning solution for you.

Mix one teaspoon of dishwashing soap with a cup of cold water. Take a clean cloth, dip in the mixture, and blot it directly on the stain. If the stain doesn’t go away after doing this twice, then try another one of our tips. Add some hydrogen peroxide to the stain and let it sink in on the blood for a few hours. Blot the carpet with a cloth to see the positive results.

  5. Urine

Cleaning urine off a carpet can be one of the trickiest things that you might have to do, especially if your carpet is red or black in color. This would mean that you would hardly be able to see the stain if someone didn’t inform you of the urine being there.

Mix white vinegar and water in equal amounts in a bowl or spray bottle and pour the entire mixture on the urine stain. Make sure that the mixture reaches deep inside the fibers so that you are satisfied with the cleanliness part. Use a brush to scrub off the mixture and repeat the process until you are completely satisfied and the smell goes away.

  6. Dirt and Mud

Did your kids just come back from a beach trip and accidentally dropped their mud-filled clothes on the carpet? Now that your carpet is covered in mud and dirt, we need to act fast. If the mud is still wet from the water, let it be for a little while until it dries off.

Then, scrape off whatever you can before running a vacuum cleaner on the carpet. If the mud and dirt are still there, then make a quick solution of dish soap and water and let it sit for a few minutes. Take a clean cloth and wipe off the mud and dirt residue so that your carpet can go back to the same condition it previously was.

Wasn’t that an easy and less time-consuming cleaning tip?
